
ARIZONA MUSIC THERAPY ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION MAY 2003
Article I
Name
Section 1. The name of the organization shall be the Arizona Music Therapy Association.
Article II
Purpose
Section 2. The purpose of the Association is to support the aims and objectives of the American Music Therapy Association; to promote the growth of Music Therapy as a profession in the state of Arizona; to provide a professional support group for Music Therapists in Arizona; to encourage ongoing education of Music Therapy by providing speakers, workshops, and other special projects.
Article III
Membership
Section 1. Membership in the Association shall be of three classes; professional, student, and inactive.
Section 2. Membership in the Association shall be subject to residence in the state of Arizona.
Section 3. Membership privileges and annual dues shall be prescribed in the Bylaws of the Arizona Music Therapy Association.
Article IV
Officers
Section 1. The officers of the Arizona Music Therapy Association shall be elective. The authority and duty of each official shall be such as is defined in the Bylaws.
Section 2. The elective officers of the Association shall be a President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer.
Section 3. The elective officer of the Association shall hold the same office for no more than two consecutive terms.
Article V
Representatives to Arizona Music Therapy Association
Section 1. Representatives to the Arizona Music Therapy Association committees shall be appointive. The method of appointment shall be specified in the Bylaws.
Section 2. The authority and duty of Representatives to the Arizona Music Therapy Association committees shall be such as defined in the Bylaws.
Article VI
Executive Board
Section 1. The Executive Board shall consist of the President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, Government Relations Representative, and the Student Liaison.
Section 2. The Executive Board shall have the power to transact the general
business of the Association; shall be responsible for the management and control of its funds; and shall be empowered to appoint assistants to any officer of the Association.
Section 3. Any Executive Board member vacancy shall be filled specified in
the Bylaws.
Article VII
Meetings
Section 1. Meetings of the Association shall occur no less than four times per year. The method of scheduling shall be specified in the Bylaws.
Section 2. Special meetings of the Association shall occur on an as needed basis. The method of scheduling shall be specified in the Bylaws.
Section 3. Meetings shall be governed by Roberts Rules of Order, as such rules may be revised from time to time, and insofar as such rules are not inconsistent with or in conflict with these Articles or the Bylaws.
Article VIII
Quorum
Section 1. The quorum of the Executive Committee shall be: a simple majority of those attending the meeting, of which at least two (2) must be officers, shall constitute a quorum. Section 2. The normal quorum of the Executive Committee, plus at least 25% of the professional membership, shall constitute a quorum for an Annual Meeting. At no time shall lack of a quorum at a non-business session prevent those present from proceeding with the program of the day.
Article IX
Amendments
Section 1. This Constitution may be amended at any quarterly meeting by two-thirds vote of the active members present, provided that the proposed amendments have been submitted to the membership at least two weeks in advance of the meeting.
Section 2. This Constitution may also be amended by mail vote solicited from the total membership, the amendments having been submitted to the membership by mail at least two weeks before the vote is due. A two-thirds affirmative of the members responding is necessary for change, adoption, or repeal of an amendment.
Article X
Financial System
Section 1. The financial records of the Association will consist of a checking account and a petty cash account. The Secretary/Treasurer of the Association is responsible for the monies and is accountable to the membership for accurate record keeping and balances. Accountability procedures may be called upon at any time in the manner specified in the Bylaws.
Section 2. Financial Audit: there will be an auditing of the Associations Financial records in December of the second year of the Secretary/Treasurers term of office. The audit will be performed by the President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, and one person appointed from the professional membership.
Section 3. Financial Report: there will be no less than 1 financial report presented to the membership each year. This report may be called upon in the manner specified in the Bylaws.
Article XI
Publications
Section 1. The official publication of the Arizona Music Therapy Association is the quarterly newsletter.

Article I MEMBERSHIP
Section 1. Professional membership shall be open to all persons interested and/or engaged in the professional use of music therapy and shall consist of those who have paid current dues to the Association. Such membership shall provide the privileges of participation in activities of the Association; the right to vote, to hold office, and to receive any publication of the Association.
Section 2. Student membership shall be open to all individuals enrolled in a Bachelors or equivalency level degree program and shall consist of those who have paid current dues to the Association. Such membership shall provide participation in activities of the Association and to receive any publications of the Association.
Section 3. Inactive status shall be given to any previously active member or student member who is delinquent in paying dues to the Association.
Article II DUES
Section 1. Annual due for membership is as follows: Professional - $20.00; Student - $10.00
Section 2. Annual dues will be paid by January 31 of each year.
Article III OFFICERS
Section 1. The elective officers of the Association shall be elected by active professional members through mail ballot after the last business meeting of the term before January 1 of the new term. The officers shall continue in office for a term of two years. The regular term of office shall commence on January 1 of alternating years.
Section 2. The President shall preside at the meetings of the Association, appoint committees, and chair and perform other duties implied by the title. Section 3. Vice President shall preside in the absence of the President, shall
succeed to the Presidency until a special election can be held, and shall serve as program chairperson for workshops or continuing education meetings.
Section 4. The Secretary/Treasurer shall take minutes at all business meetings, collect dues, distribute correspondence and publications, and handle the financial affairs of the Association.
Article IV NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS
Section 1. Nominations for all elected officers shall be made from the membership with prior approval of the nominee.
Section 2. Elections will be held by mail ballot after the last business meeting and prior to the inception of the stated term of office by a majority of ballots received.
- A. President and Secretary/Treasurer will be elected for terms beginning in the odd year.
- B. The Vice President shall be elected for terms beginning in the even year.
Section 3. In the event of resignation from elected office, the Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer positions shall be filled by a special election to be held at the following business meeting or by mail-in election as determined by the elected officers.
Section 4. In the event of a resignation from elected office, the Presidential office shall be filled by succession of the Vice President to President. A special election for Vice President shall be stated in Section 3 of this article.
Article V REPRESENTATIVES
Section 1. Representatives to the Arizona Music Therapy Association committees shall be accepted and/or appointed by the executive board as necessary.
Section 2. The authority and duty of the Representatives to the Arizona Music Therapy Association committees shall be decided by the executive board.
Article VI RULES OF ORDER
Section 1. All business of the Association will be conducted using approved parliamentary procedure.
Article VII FINANCIAL SYSTEM
Section 1. If budget permits, elected Arizona Music Therapy Association officers will be reimbursed for National Association of Music Therapy Western Regional and National Association for Music Therapy conference fees. Conference feels will be voted on during the first general business meeting of the year preceding each conference.
Section 2. Petty cash: purchases under $20.00 are allowed at the discretion and approval of the Secretary/Treasurer.
Section 3. Primary Expenditures: purchases between $20.00 - $100.00 require Executive Committee vote.
Section 4. Capitol Expenditures: purchases over $100.00 require Arizona Music Therapy Association membership vote.

Article VIII MEETINGS
Section 1. Quarterly meeting of the members shall be scheduled by the President. Date, time, and location will be announced in the quarterly newsletter.
Section 2. Special meetings of the Arizona Music Therapy Association, the Executive Board, and any committee may be called. It is the responsibility of the President or committee chairman to schedule the meeting and inform the participating members.
