Arizona State University

Arizona State University offers Bachelor, equivalency, and Master level music therapy degrees at the Herberger College of Arts School of Music. Master level classes are available late afternoons and early evenings to accommodate the music therapists’ busy schedules. If beginning a Master’s degree is too much of a commitment right now, you are welcome to take a class as a non-matriculated major. In addition to working towards a degree, university classes are a convenient way to earn CMTE’s.

Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center

BGSMC is an over 600 bed general medical hospital in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. Populations served by the music therapy department include oncology, ICU, antepartum, general medical, behavioral health.

Internship start dates are in January, April, July, and October.

Opportunity for Pre-Clinical with IRC

We are the International Rescue Committee – a critical global network of first responders, humanitarian relief workers, health care providers, educators, community leaders, activists, and volunteers. Working together, we provide access to safety, sanctuary, and sustainable change for millions or people whose lives have been shattered by violence and oppression.

The main psychiatric disorders that the MTS will face are, but not limited, adjustment disorder, anxiety disorder, mood disorders, suicidal ideation, anger management, pregnancy, postnatal, menopausal issues, female circumcision, torture, rape, domestic violence, potential issues with children ( child abuse and neglect), and PTSD ( Posttraumatic Stress Disorder).

The MTS will learn to understand the demands of the refugees as well their cultural background. Interpreters are provided for those clients who don’t speak English.

The Music Therapy sessions are one-to-one or group at IRC’s office, schools, hospitals, psychiatric clinics, client’s home.

If you are interested in learn about several different ethnic backgrounds from all around world this office is a great opportunity.
